Dancing Soul

Dancing Soul (Debra Adamson) is based in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. In April 2006 she celebrates her 50th birthday with a series of solo performances in fundraisers benefiting both the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. While Debra does not feel compelled to perform (and is actually rather shy about it), she is very community service oriented and won’t hesitate to participate in workshops and shows that benefit those in need. She and her business, The Ancient Soul, have been supporters of benefits for the victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, The American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, and local nursing homes.

Debra is fairly new to Belly Dancing and has been studying with Zayna (Chicago) for 2 years and Kimahri (Chicago) for the past year. She originally came to the dance as part of a fitness program to control Type II Diabetes, but immediately fell in love with the dance community in Chicago. Her 3D Graphic Arts business partner, Lynn Grant, fell in love with the music and the art form. He continues to encourage and foster her interest in the Middle Eastern culture and dance. Together they formed The Ancient Soul which has become well known as a MED resource in the Midwest.

The Ancient Soul web site is also an outlet for her creativity which she maintains along with her partner Tahtib Soul (Lynn Grant). Together they maintain an extensive web site that list regional events, and galleries of over 2,000 photos from dozens of events throughout the Midwest over the past year. Membership is free and their gift to a community that has enriched their lives. The Ancient Soul also vends affordable costuming to students and student troupes in the Midwest. This came about when Debra found that there was not much to be found in way of Middle Eastern costuming in her area. (As much as she enjoys the dance, she loves playing dress up!) 

You will often see Debra and Lynn at Haflas and workshops throughout Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin.
